Indian cricket star Virat Kohli has achieved another major milestone in his career, becoming only the second batter in the world to complete 15,000 runs in One Day International (ODI) cricket.

Kohli reached the milestone during the first ODI against the West Indies on September 27, 2026. Before the match, he had scored 14,941 runs in 314 ODIs and needed just 59 more runs to reach the 15,000-run mark.

His century against the West Indies helped him complete the historic milestone and move into second place among the highest ODI run-scorers.

Sachin Tendulkar Remains at the Top

India’s legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar remains the leading run-scorer in ODI cricket. He scored 18,426 runs in 463 matches and 452 innings during his ODI career.

Tendulkar’s highest ODI score was an unbeaten 200. He also finished his career with 49 centuries and 96 half-centuries.

Kohli has now joined Tendulkar in the exclusive 15,000-run club. Before reaching this milestone, Kohli had already scored 54 ODI centuries and 79 half-centuries. His highest ODI score is 183 runs.

Kohli Reaches 15,000 Runs Faster Than Tendulkar

Kohli also set a record for reaching 15,000 ODI runs in fewer innings than Tendulkar.

The Indian batter reached the milestone in his 303rd ODI innings, while Tendulkar completed 15,000 runs in his 377th innings. Kohli therefore reached the landmark 74 innings earlier than Tendulkar.

Batters With 15,000 or More ODI Runs

Only two batters have crossed the 15,000-run mark in ODI cricket:

Sachin Tendulkar: 463 matches, 18,426 runs, highest score 200 not out, average 44.83, 49 centuries and 96 half-centuries.

Virat Kohli: 315 matches, 15,000 runs, highest score 183, with 54 centuries and 79 half-centuries before reaching the milestone.

Other leading ODI run-scorers nearing the mark include Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara with 14,234 runs, Australia’s Ricky Ponting with 13,704 runs, and Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya with 13,430 runs. However, none of them reached 15,000 ODI runs.
